I was responsible for the
writing, cinematography, editing and directing.I started this project by analyzing the video my boss referenced.
368 THE FIRST EPISODE I broke down it's story structure into scenes, and created an outline of the major parts. From there, I adapted the outline into a shot list we would use
for our video.
Chris approved the shot list. So we settled on a day, and began shooting. Chris knew what he wanted to say. Everything else was up to me: I made sure his energy was good and his words were clear. I framed up the shots, recorded audio and kept track of the shot list. I had 1 person helping me.
Once we were done shooting, I started editing. It took many rounds of revisions and additional shoots. I got loads of tough-to-incorporate feedback. Chris's vision kept changing and I found myself chasing a moving target. But in the end we were both happy with the results and I learned some valuable lessons.
I learned a lot about planning, listening and being flexible. I learned how to: analyze a successful video, break down why it works and use that to create a new video. I learned that the key to working on a project with a changing goal is to remain flexible and positive. The most valuable lesson I learned was how to let go of my own ideas and listen to other people.
